UPA Kryivka-Museum

Museum / gallery

The kryivka (hideout) of UPA fighters was restored in 2018 in Playek tract near the village of Hrynkiv.

In 1947, there was an underground bunker at this place, which was used by the propaganda department of the Regional Leadership of the OUN of the Carpathian Territory. On November 5, 1947, ten rebels led by Geletiy Leon "Tysa" fought here with a large squad of NKVD punishers. Almost all of them died.

Local activists found the site of the battle in the forest and rebuilt the kryivka according to the preserved drawings.

UPA Kryivka-Museum

Museum / gallery

The UPA Kryivka-Museum on the outskirts of Pistyn village was opened in 2015 on the Fatherland Fatherland Day on the feast of the Intercession of the Holy Mother of God on the initiative of the local community and with the support of the Kuty Forestry State Enterprise.

It was at this place that the Kosiv foresters found the remains of an underground shelter of soldiers of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) with an archive of documents that tell about the armed struggle of Kosoiv rebels against the Soviet invaders in 1946-1951.

The museum complex consists of three kryivkas (hideouts), reconstructed in their original form (residential kryivka, armory hideout, hospital kryivka), between which the tourist route "Paths of the UPA's Battle Glory" is laid. Information stands introduce the history of the creation of the complex and the main milestones of the formation and activity of the UPA in the territory of the Kosiv district.

Near the UPA Kryivka-Museum, the infrastructure of a recreation area with the possibility of camping has been arranged.

Vidrodzhennya Square

Historic area

Vidrodzhennya Square (Renaissance Square) is the historical center of the city of Kolomyia.

In the medieval city, it was part of a large market square where the town hall stood (initially there was a castle in its place, then a Catholic church).

Houses of the 19th and 20th centuries have been preserved along the perimeter of the Vidrodzhennya Square. The oldest among them is building No. 1, which housed the Grand Hotel before the Second World War.

In 1914, a bust of Taras Shevchenko was erected on the square to celebrate the poet's 100th birthday, but it was soon destroyed. A new monument to Shevchenko was erected only in 1990.

The cozy pedestrian part of Vyacheslav Chornovol Avenue begins from the Vidrodzhennya Square.

Yablonovsky Castle

Castle / fortress

The Mariiampil castle on the high left bank of the Dniester was built in 1691 by the famous Polish commander, the great crown hetman Stanisłav Yablonovsky.

In the 12th-15th centuries, there was an ancient Rus settlement of Chortopil on this place, and later - a wooden castle of Bozhiy Vydok. Yablonovsky Castle was named Mariiampil in honor of the icon of the Virgin Mary "the Victorious", who accompanied the hetman in all his military campaigns. The fortress had four defensive towers, two entrance gates, a residential building and garrison barracks, a siege well.

In the 18th and 19th centuries, part of the defensive structures were dismantled for the construction of a new palace, which has survived to this day (now a hospital). A 600-year-old oak tree grows in front of the palace, and an ancient park is located behind the house.

There is a healing spring at the foot of Castle Hill (Zamkova Hora).
