Nicholas the Wonderworker Church (Church on the water)

Temple

The Church of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker is the first in Ukraine to be built on water.

It is located near the Saint Illya Church in Podil (a number of historians believe that the baptism of Rus took place in this place). Construction near the Kyiv river station was started in 2003 at the initiative and at the expense of the Ukrrichflot company, and a year later the church was consecrated.

The church in honor of the heavenly patron of annuals was erected in the Dnipro water area on stilts, 15 meters from the embankment. The height is 23 meters.

Obelisk "Kyiv Hero City"

Monument

The 43-meter obelisk "Kyiv Hero City" was installed in 1982 on Halytska Square (formerly Peremohy Square, Yevbaz), where two of the most beautiful highways of the capital of Ukraine diverge - Taras Shevchenko Boulevard and Beresteyskyi Avenue.

On September 15, 2023, the elements that were subject to the Law on Decommunization were removed from the obelisk - the Soviet stars on the sides of the high marble stele and the annotation board in Russian were removed, and the inscription "1941" was changed to "1939", the year when the Second World War began war.

Observation deck "Red Yard"

Entertainment / leisure

The observation deck "Red Yard" was opened in one of the botanical gardens named after Hryshko - on the place where in the 11th century there was a country residence of the great prince of Kyiv Vsevolod, son of Yaroslav the Wise.

The Red Yard fortress was built in 1071, 25 years later it was burned down by the Polovtsy, but it was soon restored and still served the grandson of Vsevolod - Yuriy Dolhoruky.

The observation deck "Red Yard" is stylized as a fortress from the time of Ancient Rus: wooden gates, palisade, watchtower, wooden platforms and a path. From here there is a wonderful view of the Dnipro, the Potona Bridge, the left bank, the Vydubytskyi Monastery and the Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War.

Entrance through the territory of the botanical garden named after Hryshko.

Office of the President of Ukraine

Architecture

The Office of the President of Ukraine is the main government institution of the country.

The austere building in the style of classicism was built for the headquarters of the Kyiv Special Military District on the basis of two buildings of the 19th century. After the war, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine was located here.

Since 1991, the building has served as the residence of the President of Ukraine. Until 2005, it was called the Administration of the President. During the reign of Viktor Yushchenko, the Administration was renamed the Secretariat, then returned its name. During the administration of Volodymyr Zelenskyi, the Administration was renamed again - to the Office of the President of Ukraine.

The name of Bankova Street, where the Office is located, has become synonymous with the center of supreme power. The street is open for free passage, but is closed during official events.

Excursions can be organized. Opposite is the famous "House with chimeras".

Olimpiyskiy NSC Stadium

Stadium / sports complex , Museum / gallery

Olimpiyskiy National Sports Complex (NSC) is the main sports arena of Ukraine. It is the main venue for home football matches of the national football team of Ukraine.

The Central Stadium of the city of Kyiv (formerly the "Republican Stadium") is located in the very center of city, at the foot of Cherepanova Hill. Its slope served as the basis for the construction of the southern and eastern tribunes of the Red Stadium named after Lev Trotskiy, which was first opened in 1923. Already in 1936, according to the project of the architect Mykhaylo Hrechyna, the reconstruction of the stadium began with bringing the capacity to 50,000 spectators, but due to the Second World war, the opening took place only in 1946.

After another reconstruction in 1966-1968 with the completion of the second tier of stands, the stadium began to accommodate 100,000 spectators, becoming one of the largest in the USSR and Europe. It was modernized twice, and in 2011, the Olimpiyskiy NSC Stadium opened after a complete reconstruction for the Euro-2012 football championship.

The central part of the stadium is a large sports arena with a football field, athletic tracks and two-tier stands for spectators. The capacity was reduced to 70,000 seats due to the expansion of aisles to sectors, VIP boxes, places for commentators and places for people with disabilities. A canopy of modern material was built above the stands, covering all seats.

In 2013, the Olimpiyskiy NSC History Museum was opened, where posters of historical matches, balls used by great athletes, 3D models and interactive installations of events, rare exhibits from the 1980 Olympics and much more are presented.

Excursions are available by appointment, during which visitors are shown the Olympic courtyard, the arena and the football players' locker rooms.

The complex also houses the Dynamo Kyiv Football Club Museum and the Klitschko Brothers Sports Achievements Museum.

Panikovsky Monument

Monument

The monument to Mykhaylo Samuelovych Panikovsky, a character in the novel "The Golden Calf" by Ilf and Petrov, is located in the center of Kyiv, at the beginning of Prorizna Street.

It was at the intersection of Khreshchatyk and Prorizna that, according to the text of the novel, the "big blind man" worked before the revolution: "I used to go out on Khreschatyk in glasses and with a cane and asked a gentleman to better help the poor blind man cross the street. The gentleman took me by the hand and led me. On another sidewalk, he was missing his watch, if he had a watch, or his wallet."

The monument to Panikovsky was erected in 1998 at the initiative of the bank "Etalon". Sculptors Volodymyr Shchur and Vitaliy Sivko gave the nationally beloved character a portrait likeness of Zinoviy Gerdt, who played the role of Mykhaylo Samuelovych in the film "The Golden Calf" directed by Mykhaylo Shveytser. Panikovsky is depicted as a blind man crossing the road wearing dark glasses and a cane. With one foot he hastens to step on the coin lying on the cobblestone. On the sole of his shoe is depicted a figure of three fingers - shish.

Park named after Ivan Bahryany

Park / garden

The park named after Ivan Bahryany in Kyiv dates back to 1899, when the head of the garden commission of the City Duma, Romyshevskyi, proposed to join the area on the former Brest-Litovsk highway to the city limits and to establish a country park here.

Soon the Duma made a decision to allocate 58 acres of land. The following year, 1899, was the 100th anniversary of the birth of O. Pushkin, so they decided to name the park Pushkinsky. The plan of the park was developed by the chief city gardener Ivan Zhukovsky. In the fall of 1902, a grand celebration of the first tree planting took place in Pushkinsky Park - 2,000 saplings were planted.

In 2007, the park was reconstructed - landscaping works were carried out, young trees were planted: red oak, chestnut, ash, mountain ash, conifers, flower gardens and landscape compositions were arranged. The outdoor lighting system was also reconstructed, paths were paved and benches were installed.

In 2023, as part of de-Russification, by decision of the Kyiv City Council, Pushkinsky Park was renamed in honor of the Ukrainian poet Ivan Bahryany.

Currently, the park named after Ivan Bahryany occupies an area of 19.45 hectares, 60 species of trees and shrubs grow on its territory.

The exposition of the museum is deployed in five rooms of the apartment, in which the authenticity of the interiors and the atmosphere is preserved as much as possible, which creates the effect of "the presence of the owner". The main part of the exposition consists of memorial items of Pavlo Tychyna, which were handed over to the museum by his wife Lydia Petrivna.

His books, musical instruments, art collection and personal drawings are stored in the study. The master bedroom and the room of Pavlo Hryhorovych's mother-in-law, Kateryna Kuzmivna Paparuk, are very cozy. Pavlo Tychyna Memorial Library has more than 20,000 items of printed materials. The souvenir shop offers books by Pavlo Tychyna, souvenirs with the museum logo.

In the same building is the Literary Memorial Museum-Apartment of Mykola Bazhan, who was a neighbor of Tychyna.
