Aktove Canyon

Natural object

The Aktove Canyon on the Mertvovod River, also known as the "Devil's Valley" or Little Crimea, stretches 3 kilometers from the village of Aktove to the village of Petropavlivka.

The depth of the canyon reaches 40-50 meters, the area is more than 250 hectares.

Aktove Canyon is a unique complex of forest and water ecosystems with an ensemble of rocks and granite boulders. The only one in Europe, which, according to its geological and landscape indicators, resembles the famous canyons of North America in miniature with great accuracy in the time of formation.

The whimsical ornateness of the Mertvovod channel (due to the high concentration of hydrogen sulfide in the water), steep walls, the magnificent beauty of granite-basalt rocks (up to 100 meters high) and unique natural beauty attract tourists from all over Europe. The difficult topography of the area does not allow river rafting, but the canyon is attractive for fans of extreme sports, rock climbers and climbers.

The natural complex of the Aktove Canyon, like all the banks of the Mertvovod, is a part of the National Nature Park "Buzky Gard".

Nearby, between Aktove and Trykraty, at the confluence of the Arbuzynka River with the Mertvovod, is the equally picturesque Arbuzyn (Maly Aktove) canyon.

Arbuzynsky Canyon

Natural object

The Arbuzynsky Canyon near the village of Aktove is also called the Small Aktivsky Canyon, "Valley of the Devil".

The granite rocks that form the relief of the Arbuzynka River valley were formed 4 billion years ago as a result of volcanic activity (it is believed that the volcano has not yet cooled, so violets sometimes bloom on the rocks even in winter). Here you can meet pheasants, turtles, hawks, muskrats, moles, bison, wild boars and even deer.

Arbuzynsky Canyon is a part of the National Nature Park "Buzky Gard". It is often confused with the larger and more difficult-to-access Aktivsky Canyon ("Devil's Valley"), located on the Mertvovod River behind the village of Aktove.

The view of both canyons opens simultaneously from the rock "Navel of the Earth" - the highest point of the tract.

Fortress "Wanderer"

Historic area , Natural object

Traces of an ancient border post of the Zaporizhzhian Cossacks have been preserved on a hill above the Pivdeny Buh near Ivanivka near Pivdennoukrainsk.

On Richchi Zannoni 's map of 1767, this place is marked as the border fortress "Wanderer". Now there are only a few dozen stones in its place, as well as an ancient stone road leading to the Pivdeny Buh. Very nice places.

Hard Tract

Historic area , Natural object

The Hard tract in the granite canyon of the Pivdennyi Buh River is one of the most picturesque places of the Buzkyi Hard National Nature Park (formerly the Regional Landscape Park "Granite-Steppe Pobuzhzhya").

"Hard" was the name of a special structure for catching fish, built by Zaporizhzhia Cossacks back in the 16th century. After the creation of Nova Sich in 1740, the Buho-Hard palanque of the Zaporizhzhia Nizove Army was formed on these lands, the military-administrative center of which was the settlement of Hard (present-day Bohdanivka opposite Pivdennoukrainsk). There was a ferry crossing across the Pivdennyi Buh on Hard Island, for the protection of which the Buho-Hard armed border post was built.

The remains of the Cossack fortress and the wooden church on Hard Island were preserved until the middle of the 20th century. In the 1970s, the Yuzhnoukrainsk NPP was built at the confluence of the Pivdennyi Buh and its left tributary Velikiy Tashlyk, a Cossack church was destroyed on Hard Island, and granite rocks were blown up. In 2006, during the construction of the Tashlytska HPP, the Hard threshold was flooded.

The remains of the island itself still exist, but are divided into two parts. The hanging rocks of the canyon are a favorite place for climbing competitions. Porig Hard is one of the most difficult sections of rafting on the Pivdennyi Buh.

Pivdennobuzky Henge

Archaeological site

Pivdennobuzky Henge is a religious building dating back to approximately the Middle Neolithic period. On an area of about 100 square meters, 12 cult rings made of stone were found, the age of which is at least 5 thousand years.

The building is completely stone, that is. except for the visible stones sticking out, its entire form is made of stone hidden under a layer of soil. Thanks to this, its shape has been well preserved, and the spiral corridor inside is clearly visible.

According to the stories of old-timers, there used to be rumors that a large stone or idol once stood in the center of the Henge.
