Arch bridge-viaduct

Architecture

A large stone arch railway bridge-viaduct from Austrian times connects the two banks of the Prut River in Vorokhta. The Yaremche-Verkhovyna highway passes under it.

The bridge was built in 1895 during the construction of the railway Stanislav (Ivano-Frankivsk) – Yaremche – Vorokhta – Rakhiv. The length of the bridge exceeds 100 meters. It is still used as intended.

Nearby is another old Austrian bridge, which is considered one of the longest stone railway bridges in Europe (130 meters).

Dovbush Trail

Natural object

The popular tourist route "Dovbush Trail" passes through the territory of the Carpathian National Nature Park.

The tourist trail was created in 1902 in memory of the legendary people's avenger Oleksa Dovbush, who was active here in 1738-1745. Accumulations of sandstone blocks form bizarre forms with terraces and caves. According to legend, the treasures of Dovbush are hidden here.

Sculptural compositions by Darius Hrabar are installed on the path.

Entrance to the territory of the Carpathian National Nature Park is paid.

Hutsul Souvenir Market

Hutsul bazaar is the main souvenir market of Yaremche, which is one of the centers of Hutsul handicrafts.

The market is located next to the road and railway bridge over the Prut River between the city center and the resort area (another souvenir market is located next to the Probiy waterfall).

The basis of the assortment consists of wooden products: carved vases and boxes, souvenir axes (bartka), mugs and saucers, all kinds of sculptures. Hutsul blankets made of felted wool (beds), warm woolen socks and fur slippers are very popular. Embroidered and woven shirts, towels, carpets and bedspreads are presented. Dried mushrooms, honey, nuts and Carpathian herbal tea are sold here.

Prices at the Hutsul Bazaar in Yaremche are much higher than at most other souvenir markets in the region.

Legend Park "Gedzio"

The theme amusement park "Gedizo" in Yaremche is dedicated to the fantasy world of Middle-earth, described by the English writer John Tolkien in the novels "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings". Visitors enter the world of elves, gnomes, hobbits and other fairy-tale creatures.

The park is located in the tourist center of Yaremche, near the Probiy waterfall, between the "Karpatski Zori" hotel and the souvenir market. The territory has several fantasy-style buildings, various installations, an artificial lake and a mini-zoo.

The creators of the park call it the magical village of Obinor, which was founded in the Carpathians by hobbits led by the wise Gedzio Burbel. Together with him, the shepherd Harambor, the fisherman Borfey, the mushroom picker Darmil, the owner of the pub Vaid and other fairy-tale characters live here. All of them have their own stories and personal residences that you can visit as a guest.

In particular, "Hobbit Pub" offers its visitors signature ale and Carpathian dishes cooked on fire. You can taste different types of mushrooms in the "House of the Mushroom Picker". "Treasure Palaces" is a souvenir shop where you can buy themed souvenirs.

Mount Hoverla

Hoverla is the highest peak of Ukraine (2061 meters), one of the national symbols.

It is located on the border of the Ivano-Frankivsk and Transcarpathian regions, belongs to the Chornohora mountain massif.

Translated from Hungarian, the name means "Snow Mountain" (snow on the top often lies until mid-summer). The mountain has a cone-shaped shape, covered with alpine meadows, shrub wastelands, stone screes occur. The top is a small platform, from which a panoramic view of the entire Chornohora ridge opens, and in the distance the Marmarosh ridge, which runs along the border with Romania, can be seen. A huge cross is installed on the top. At the foot is one of the sources of the Prut River, a waterfall.

Mount Hoverla is located within the protected zone of the Carpathian State National Park. The easiest route to the top of Hoverla starts from the "Zaroslyak" camp. Another option is from the village of Lazeshchyna (near Yasinia). The route is marked, in summer the ascent is accessible to untrained tourists and does not require special mountaineering equipment. Registration with the control and rescue service is required. The ascent takes 2-3 hours, the descent takes an hour and a half.

Nadvirna Region History Museum

The Museum of the History of Nadvirna Region is located in a building built in the city center in 1939 and where the NKVD-KGB bodies were located.

The exposition occupies 14 rooms and has more than 6,000 exhibits.

In the basements of the museum, the conditions of the pre-trial detention center are recreated. Inscriptions made by residents of the region who were tortured by the NKVD were preserved on the walls of the prison cell.

Nativity of the Holy Virgin Church

The wooden church of the Nativity of the Holy Virgin in Vorokhta is one of the best examples of Hutsul folk architecture.

It was built according to traditional technologies without a single nail in 1654-1657 in the nearby village of Yablunytsia. The church was moved to its current location in 1780.

Fragments of 19th century wall paintings have been preserved in the interiors.

Nearby is a two-story wooden bell tower, which housed the exposition of the church museum.

In 1979, the church was restored by architects Bohdan Kindzelskyi, Hryhoriy Kruk, and Ivan Mohytych.

Oil Industries of Galicia Museum

The Museum of Oil Industries of Galicia was opened in 2013 in the village of Pniv near Nadvirna, which is one of the centers of Ukrainian oil production and oil refining.

Industrial oil production in Pryka rpattyabegan in 1771, when oil was extracted en masse from a well in Sloboda-Runhurska in Kolomyia Region.

The Oil Museum is located on the territory of the Training and Course Complex of the Nadvirnanaftogaz Oil and Gas Production Department.

The exposition consists of two parts. Archival materials, photographs, models of oil production facilities are presented in the museum premises. On the museum territory, industrial equipment and models are exhibited in the open air - from the first rigs for drilling and oil production of the 17th century to modern equipment.

Old Austrian Bridge

Architecture

A large stone arch railway bridge-viaduct of Austrian times was laid in the valley of the Prut River in Vorokhta in 1895 during the construction of the railway Stanislav (Iavno-Frankivsk) – Yaremche – Vorokhta – Rakhiv.

The bridge is located on a railway bend and in a place where the river has a wide channel, so it had to be made very long - 130 meters. The length of the widest span reaches 65 meters.

It is one of two large arched bridges in Vorokhta (the Yaremche-Verkhovyna highway passes under the second), it is considered one of the longest stone railway bridges in Europe.

Currently, the bridge is not operational - a new bridge has been built nearby.

Peter and Paul Church (Andrey Sheptytsky Museum)

The Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul at the Monastery of Saint Andrew is the youngest in Yaremche.

The monastery complex among the beech forest was built in the tract of Tovsty Dol on the banks of the mountain river Kamyanka. Saint Andrew's Missionary Congregation was founded by the famous Greek Catholic missionary Yaroslav Svyshchuk.

The wooden Peter and Paul Church, built according to the canons of traditional Hutsul architecture, is also a museum of Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky.

The museum is located on the lower tier of the church. It presents a collection collected by Yaroslav Svyshchuk: icons, portraits, subject paintings, sculpture and mosaic of famous artists of the Ukrainian diaspora - Petro Andrusiv, Edvard Kozak, Omelyan Mazuryk, Mykhaylo Dmytrenko, Yuvenaliy Mokrytsky, Mykola Bidnyak etc., as well as sculptural and iconographic works of Svyshchuk himself.

Polonyna Pertsi

The ethnographic and entertainment complex "Polonyna Pertsi" in Yablunytsia near Bukovel is a kind of museum of the Carpathian flavor. This Hutsul amusement park is located in the Carpathian polonyna (mountain meadow) at an altitude of 1000 meters above sea level with a view of Mount Hoverla.

The restored Hutsul hut has a collection of antiquities and traditional Hutsul clothing that can be tried on for a photo shoot. Workshops on folk crafts are held at various locations: blacksmithing, pottery, carving, coverlet-making, easter egg painting, cooking of Hutsul dishes, etc.

The complex has its own farm with a flock of sheep and a dairy-house where polonyna cheese is made. The owner of "Molfar's Hut" tells about the traditions of ancient Hutsul magic. There are tastings of authentic Hutsul cuisine cooked on firewood according to old recipes and branded liqueurs.

You can buy Carpathian mushrooms, cheeses, teas, liqueurs in a local shop.

Probiy Waterfall

The "Probiy" waterfall on the Prut River is one of the most full-water, picturesque and popular waterfalls of the Carpathians.

It is located in the center of the resort town of Yaremche, which is why there are always many tourists here. The waters of the Prut roll over stones at a low height (8 meters), but in the spring the stream is very full.

A pedestrian bridge is thrown over the waterfall.

Tourists are offered to take pictures against the background of rocks in Hutsul costumes.

Nearby is the most popular and quite expensive souvenir market in the Carpathians.

Restaurant Hutsulshchyna

Architecture

The building of the "Hutsulshchyna" restaurant near the Probiy waterfall in Yaremche is the most striking example of the folk architecture of the Carpathian region.

It was built in 1965 by the architect Ivan Bodnaruk from wood according to the canons of Hutsul architecture without a single nail.

The exterior design and interiors are distinguished by filigree wood carving. In the small hall there is a natural wood-burning stove lined with old Kosiv tiles. The walls are decorated with Hutsul hatchets-bartkas and other items of folk life. Tables are served with tableware made to order by Kosiv ceramic masters.

The restaurant offers visitors traditional Hutsul cuisine, in the evenings a Hutsul band performs folk music.

There is a souvenir market nearby.

Yablunytsky Pass

Yablunytsky (Yablonytskyi) pass is one of the two main passes connecting Transcarpathia with the Ivano-Frankivsk region. It is also called Tatar, because in the 13th century Mongol-Tatar hordes moved to Europe through it. In ancient times, it was the most important route between the Principality of Galicia and Hungary, then between Poland and Transylvania.

The 931-meter-high pass passes through the saddle of the Yablunytsky ridge of the Eastern Carpathians. Now there is a souvenir bazaar and an observation deck on the Yablunytsky pass.

Zhenetskyi Huk Waterfall

The Zhenetskyi Huk Waterfall is located on the Zhenets River near Mykulychyn at an altitude of 900 meters.

It was formed in the post-war years as a result of a flood. Water falls freely from a height of about 15 meters.

Local residents call the waterfall Huk because of the loud roar it makes.

The plant life around the Zhenetskyi Huk Waterfall is extremely diverse.
