Exaltation of Holy Cross Church

Temple , Architecture , Museum / gallery

The wooden three-log church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Drohobych is considered one of the best buildings in the style of Galician folk architecture.

The temple was founded in the 16th century, but as a result of the reconstruction in 1661, it lost its original appearance.

Monumental tempera painting of the 17th century and unique examples of icon painting of the 15th-18th centuries have been preserved.

The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is located in the suburb of Drohobych Zvarychy, on the territory of the fire department. Nearby is a wooden bell tower of the 17th century.

Holy Great Martyr Paraskeva Pyatnytsya Church

Temple , Architecture

The wooden church of the Holy Great Martyr Paraskeva Pyatnytsya in the Drohobych suburb of Zavyzhne is located near two masterpieces of Drohobych wooden architecture - the churches of Saint George and the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.

It was built in 1815 on the site of the ancient Pyatnytsya Church, which existed in 1496. The temple is three-log, one-story. There is a defensive bell tower nearby.

During Soviet times, the church of Saint Paraskeva was closed, now it belongs to the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church.

The authenticity of the wooden architecture hides the modern tin covering.

Holy Prophet Illya Church

Temple , Architecture

The wooden church of the Holy Prophet Illya is located in Monastyr-Lishnianskyi, a village of Lishnia.

Since 1570, there was a monastery here. The current Saint Illya Church was built in 1698 and reconstructed two centuries later.

The Latin-type temple is distinguished by the simplicity of its forms. The iconostasis dates back to the 17th and 18th centuries. The last restoration was carried out in 1992.

A peculiarity of the church's architecture is that the western part, along the perimeter of which there is an emporium on the second floor, does not protrude from the foundation, but is supported by carved columns.

Holy Trinity Cathedral

Temple , Architecture , Museum / gallery

The Holy Trinity Cathedral in Drohobych was built in 1690-1709 in the Baroque style as a Catholic church of the Carmelite monastery.

In 1808, the church passed to the Basilians and was consecrated as the Greek Catholic Church of the Holy Trinity. In 1909, an iconostasis was installed (carving was performed by Lviv master Andriy Sabaray, icons were painted by Modest Sosenko). In the 1930s, the walls were painted by Ivan Bal.

In recent years, the Trinity Cathedral in Drohobych was completely restored. Currently, it is the main church of the Sambir-Drohobych eparchy of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.

On the anniversary of the execution of the participants of the Revolution of Dignity on the Maidan in Kyiv, a memorial sign was installed on the facade of the Holy Trinity Cathedral in honor of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred and fallen soldiers of the Russian-Ukrainian war.

The Parish Museum, created in 2014 on the first anniversary of Bishop Yuliyan's death, operates in the basement of the Holy Trinity Cathedral. The museum premises consist of three halls.

In the first hall, antimins consecrated by bishops in various historical periods of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, as well as liturgical books and items of church use, are on display for inspection. In the second hall, personal belongings and paraphernalia related to the activities of Bishop Yuliyan (Voronovsky) are on display. In the third hall (crypts for burials), bishop vestments and liturgy items used by Bishop Yuliyan are on display.

Ivan Franko Literary Memorial Museum-Manor

Museum / gallery

The Ivan Franko Literary and Memorial Museum-Manor was created in the writer's homeland in the village of Nahuievychi.

He was born here in 1856 in the family of a blacksmith, spent his childhood, and then repeatedly returned to his native places. In his works, he vividly described his childhood memories, when he spent time in his father's forge as a child.

The first exhibition was opened in 1946 in the small house of the writer's nephew. Later, on the site of Franko's estate, his parents' house with cozy rooms was recreated according to his descriptions and photographs. In the colorful yard - a stable, a forge, a shed with tools and an apiary.

Opposite is the building of the Literary and Memorial Museum with an exhibition of the first editions of the writer's works, next to which is the sculptural group "Ivan Franko and World Literature".

At the entrance to the village of Nahuievychi, as well as in Franko's garden, carved wooden sculptures symbolizing ideals, literary heroes and close people of the writer have been installed.

Leader of the OUN Andriy Melnyk Manor-Museum

Museum / gallery

The manor-museum of the leader of the Ukrainian national liberation movement, the second head of the OUN, Colonel Andriy Melnyk, was opened in his native village of Volia Yakubova in 2020 on the occasion of the 130th anniversary of his birth.

Andriy Melnyk was born in 1890 in the family of a local priest and public servant Atanas Melnyk, who was friends with the family of Ivan Franko. Franko himself visited the Melnyky residence in Volia Yakubova more than once. This formed the foundations of the national consciousness and patriotism of young Andriy even in his childhood.

The museum was set up in an old house of the beginning of the 20th century, in which Andriy Melnyk's relatives once lived.

One of the rooms in the house has been preserved in an authentic state - with a clay floor. Household items and farm tools used by village craftsmen at that time were collected here. Some of them belonged to relatives of Colonel Melnyk. The exposition in another part of the house is dedicated directly to the life of Andriy Melnyk and his participation in the national liberation movement.

Mineral water Buvet No. 1 (Lower Buvet)

Architecture

"Naftusya" source No. 1 is the most famous and popular among the drinking sources of the resort.

Buvet No. 1 is located in the center of the Truskavets resort.

"Naftusya" water belongs to weakly mineralized waters (mineralization, 0.7 grams per liter) and chemically belongs to the class of hydrocarbonate-sulfate-calcium-magnesium mineral waters.

As the very name "Naftusya" shows, it contains organic substances related to the Boryslav oil field: phenols, heavy acids of the saturated petroleum series, a small amount of hydrogen sulfide, and impurities of volatile sulfurous hydrocarbons. This gives the water a specific smell and taste of oil.

Water obtained directly from the source releases gas bubbles on the walls of a closed vessel during storage. When stored in an open container for several hours, the smell and taste of oil, as well as gas bubbles, disappear.

According to its physical and chemical composition and physiological effect on the body, "Naftusya" is a unique water and has no equal in any of the resorts. It has a beneficial effect and is indicated for patients suffering from kidney stone disease, uric acid diathesis, gout and other metabolic diseases. "Naftusya" also stimulates the choleretic, bile-secreting functions of the liver and the activity of many other organs.
