Haivoron narrow-gauge railway

Entertainment / leisure

The Haivoron narrow-gauge railway is one of the few operating narrow-gauge railways in Ukraine. It was built in 1897 as part of a large network of narrow-gauge railways, created in the south of Ukraine by the Southern Association of Access Roads.

The 130-kilometer long route starts in the village of Rudnytsia, passes through Bershad, Haivoron and ends in the village of Holovanivsk. The Haivoron narrow-gauge railway is the longest in Europe.

The infrastructure of the railway included a station, a locomotive depot, a locomotive repair plant, and repair workshops. Since then, Haivoron has been the capital of Ukrainian narrow-gauge railways.

The station is located next to the regular railway station, on the other side of the tracks. Regular passenger traffic is carried out along the entire route (TU-2 locomotives). At the request of tourist groups, the old steam locomotive Gr-280 can enter the route.

In order to popularize and preserve the Haivoron narrow-gauge railway, the "GoodoK_Fest" festival was introduced in 2021, which is planned to be held annually.

Strategic Missile Forces Museum

Historic area , Museum / gallery

The Museum of Strategic Missile Forces in Pobuzke near Pervomaisk is unique and has no analogues in the world.

The top-secret launch site of intercontinental ballistic missiles, which has been completely preserved since the Cold War, is open to visitors.

The museum was created in 2001 on the basis of the disbanded 309th regiment of the 46th missile division of the Strategic Missile Forces. The complex consists of an RS-22A missile mine-launcher (SS-24 "Scalpel"), a unified underground command post, a power unit, a refrigeration center, barracks, security and utility premises. On the territory you can see samples of rocket engines, rocket-carrying vehicles, fuel tanks for rocket fuel, a mock-up of a nuclear warhead, as well as R-12 and RS-20 (SS-18 "Satan") missiles.

Excursions are conducted by officers who previously served at this base. By separate agreement, you can go down to the underground command post at a depth of 30 meters, where the "nuclear button" was located.

Vilshanka Ukrainian-Bulgarian Historical Museum named after Ivan Hurzhos

Museum / gallery

The Vilshanka Ukrainian-Bulgarian Historical Museum bears the name of its founder, Ivan Hurzhos, who during his lifetime collected a large collection of local history materials on the history of his native Vilshanka and the Vilshanka region.

The main exposition is devoted to the resettlement of more than 400 families of Danube Bulgarians who took part in the Russian-Turkish war of 1768–1774 on the side of Russia. The most valuable exhibit is the icon of St. John the Merciful (1874), painted for the 100th anniversary of the settlement of Bulgarians in the Vilshanka region.

Also among the exhibits: the Bulgarian national musical instrument – a gaida, saber and scabbard produced by the Zlatoustiv factory, Bulgarian national women's clothing, a Cossack pipe, works of local carpet makers and embroiderers, etc.

Special attention should be paid to the reprint edition of "Vilshanka Village Chronicle", written by the priest of the Church of Saint John the Merciful Volodymyr Lobachevsky, who described the period from 1773 to 1885.

Water Mill

Architecture

The picturesque ruins of a water mill on the Pivdenny Buh River in Lupolove always attract lovers of water tourism.

The three-story building of the mill was built in 1901 on the branch of the Pivdenny Buh, which washes one of the islands. The dam and the waterfall, which used to turn the water wheel, are called "Jacuzzi" by the locals and are used for bathing.

The recently started reconstruction for the purpose of creating a recreation complex is currently suspended.
