Hlibov Estate

Palace / manor , Architecture

The estate of the leader of the Chernihiv nobility Hryhoriy Hlibov appeared on the outskirts of Chernihiv - on Bobrovytsa - at the end of the 19th century.

Deputy of the State Duma, wealthy landowner Hryhoriy Hlibov had the reputation of an eccentric person. He built his romantic palace in the Neo-Gothic style, decorating it with a somewhat clumsy watchtower. A linden avenue led to the manor, along which lay large boulders. Even then, local residents nicknamed the Hlibov Palace "castle".

Currently, the Institute of Agricultural Microbiology of the Ukrainian Academy of Agrarian Sciences is located in the Hlibov estate.

Holy Trinity Cathedral

Temple , Architecture

The Holy Trinity Cathedral in Chernihiv is part of the complex of the Trinity-Illinsky Monastery, founded on the Boldyny Hills in the 11th century by Antoniy Pecherskyi.

After the Mongol-Tatar invasion, the monastery was revived in 1649 on the initiative of Colonel Stepan Podobaylo. The ensemble of the Trinity Cathedral with the bell tower, the Church of the Introduction and the Refectory was built in 1679-1695 at the expense of Hetman of Ukraine Ivan Mazepa. Since 1790, the Trinity-Illinsky Monastery has served as the residence of the Archbishop of Chernihiv - the so-called "Archbishop's House" is located here.

The monastery itself is closed, but the cathedral is open to parishioners. The relics of Chernihiv saints rest in the Trinity Cathedral: Saint Theodosius of Chernihiv, Saint Lavrenty, Saint Filaret (Humylevskyi), parts of the relics of some Kyiv saints.

The biker poet Leonid Hlibov is buried near the southern wall of the cathedral.

The 58-meter-high monumental bell tower is open for visitors (195 steps), the best panorama of Chernihiv opens from above.

The Holy Trinity Cathedral is part of the National Architectural and Historical Reserve "Ancient Chernihiv".

Nativity of the Holy Virgin Cathedral

Temple , Architecture

The Cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin in Kozelets is considered one of the most beautiful Ukrainian Baroque monuments in the country.

This magnificent temple with a magnificent decoration and a beautiful iconostasis was built in 1752-1763 by the order of Nataliya Rozumovska (Rozumikha) to thank God for the happy fate of her sons Oleksiy and Kyrylo, who occupied a high position at the court of Empress Elizaveta.

The authors of the project are considered to be the students of the architect Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli - Ivan Hryhorovych-Barskyi and Andriy Kvasov, but it is possible that Rastrelli himself had something to do with the project. It is possible that the grandiose seven-tiered carved iconostasis 27 meters high was created with his participation.

In the lower part of the temple is the warm church of Adrian and Nataliya - the tomb of the Rozumovskys, where its founder is buried.

The five-domed church impresses with its size and rich decoration, uncharacteristic for the Ukrainian hinterland. According to legend, in clear weather you can see Kyiv and Chernihiv from the 50-meter-high belfry at the same time, but the ascent to the belfry is not allowed recently due to the emergency condition of the stairs.

Pavlо Polubotko Kamyanytsya

Architecture , Museum / gallery

The Kamyanytsya of Chernihiv colonel Pavlo Polubotko in Liubech is one of the few examples of stone civil architecture of the 18th century in Chernihiv region.

Previously, these lands belonged to Hetman Mazepa, but after his alliance with the Swedes, Peter handed over Ljubech to Colonel Polubotko for excellent service. Later, Polubotko became the commanding hetman of Ukraine, but as a result he was arrested and died in the Peter and Paul Fortress.

The Polubotko Kamyanytsya was located on the territory of the old fortress at the post of Liubech (near the current cultural center). In 2012, the tenement house was completely restored, and a temporary exhibition of exhibits from the collection of the Chernihiv Historical Museum opened in the premises. It is planned to create a museum of the Cossack era and hetman Pavlo Polubotko.

Nearby, on the steep banks of the Dnipro River, the second of the two Liubech cave temples attributed to Antoniy Pechersky, the so-called Near Cave, was recently discovered. According to archaeologists, the temple was created in memory of Antoniy Pechersky in the 19th century on the territory of the park of Count Miloradovych's estate.

Pavlо Tychyna Historical and Memorial Museum

Museum / gallery , Palace / manor

The historical and memorial museum of Pavlo Tychyna was opened in the village of Pisky in 1981 in the house where the future poet was born in 1891 and where he spent his childhood years.

Pavlo Tychyna's parental house was recreated according to the drawings of the architect Oleksandr Nozdrin and the memories of the poet's sister (the original burned down during the Second World War). There is a village stove, a kerosene lamp, makitras and other household items.

A monument to the poet was erected in the yard, next to the well.

The museum's exposition continues in the adjacent room: first editions of books, photographs, personal belongings. Several stands tell about the public and political activities of the poet-academic, who was the Minister of Education of Ukraine, a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, and the chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR.

Resurrection Church

Temple , Architecture

The Resurrection Church in Sedniv is the family tomb of the Lyzohub Cossack-senior family.

The church was built in 1690 by Yakiv Lyzohub in the Baroque style. The structure resembles Ukrainian wooden log churches. Rebuilt in 1796-1814. At the same time, a two-story belfry over the gate was added.

For centuries, representatives of the Lyzohub family were buried here. In Soviet times, the dungeon-crypts were destroyed, the mummified remains were used for anti-religious propaganda, but later one mummy, miraculously preserved in the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, was returned to Sedniv and placed in a crypt.

Restoration was carried out in the 1980s. Today, the Resurrection Church is active.

Nearby is the grave of the local "non-canonized saint" Hryts Zolotyusenky, who is associated with many legends about prophecies and healings.
