Pierced Stones (Hawkeye)

Natural object

The group of rocks in the Bukovyna Carpathians east of the village of Roztoky, near the Nimchych pass, is called "Pierced Stones".

As a result of weathering, many holes have formed in the 40-meter-high sandstone rocks, they seem to have been perforated.

The most impressive arched rock is Hawkeye - a rare form of karst in the Carpathians. The arch at the top of the rock resembles the shape of eyes, hence the name. At the foot of the rock is a small three-chambered cave.

Anna Moskva-Holota House

Palace / manor

The house of Anna Moskva-Holota, the wife of Mykhaylo Moskva, a lawyer and member of the Austrian Parliament, was built in Vyzhnytsia in the second half of the 19th century.

Anna Moskva-Holota was one of the most educated women of Bukovyna, well versed in politics and culture, knew several foreign languages, knew how to play the piano, graduated from a teachers' gymnasium, was hardened in the fight for women's rights, for the will of Ukraine. Extremely energetic and patriotic, she renovated the People's House in Vyzhnytsia with her own funds (now it is located on the territory of the Vyzhnytsia boarding school) and became the last head of the "Prosvita" (Enlightenment) society in the city.

Moskva's house was a cozy place for rest, peace of mind, communication with creative people over a cup of coffee and rum, those who wanted could use the family's library of rare books. Moskva's house, which the local intelligentsia then called among themselves the "House under the green lantern", in the times of Austria-Hungary became a kind of House of creativity, where cultural figures, writers and scientists were guests. Ivan Franko stopped in Moscow several times - for the first time in 1884 during his expedition to collect materials about the legendary oprysh Oleksa Dovbush and the leader of the peasant uprising Lukyan Kobylytsa. In the summer of 1901, Lesya Ukrayinka, together with her husband, the ethnographer Klyment Kvitka, also stayed at the house of Anna Moskva-Holota, with whom she was friends until her death. At the beginning of the 20th century, the writers Mykhaylo Kotsyubynskyi, Olha Kobylyanska, Hnat Hotkevych, Yuriy Fedkovych and many other prominent Ukrainians visited here.

On the facade of the Moskva`s house, the old sign of the shop, which was kept by the family, has been preserved to this day.

In honor of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Ivan Franko, on the initiative of the creative intelligentsia and the "Prosvita" society, a bas-relief to Ivan Franko, Lesya Ukrayinka and Olha Kobylyanska was unveiled on the building. The author of the bas-relief is the sculptor Volodymyr Rymar.

Kamyana Bahachka Rock

Natural object

Rock "Kamyana Bahachka" ("Petrified Bahachka"), located in the village of Ust-Putyla, is located to the left of the road.

It is a pyramid-shaped geological formation 30 meters high, 12 meters wide at the base.

"Kamyana Bahachka" is a very rare form of weathering in the Carpathians. The rock actually resembles the figure of a man, or rather a woman. Among local residents, her appearance is shrouded in a legend about an evil and wealthy woman who spared a small amount of money for a beggar who was dying of hunger. She was petrified as a punishment for her greed.

The Austrian colonists called the rock "Bishop" because the jagged top of the rock reminded them of a bishop's crown.

Main Synagogue

Temple

The massive three-story building of the Main Synagogue is one of the architectural landmarks of the central square of Vyzhnytsia.

It was one of the 11 Jewish sanctuaries that existed in the city during the Austrian rule.

During the First World War, the temple burned down. In the 1960s, the building was reconstructed as a district cultural center. It was here that the artistic career of the famous singer Nazariy Yaremchuk, whose childhood and youth were spent in Vyzhnytsia, began.

Today, the turquoise building of the former synagogue is a city house of folk creativity and leisure.

Malanka Museum

Museum / gallery

The Malanka Museum was opened in the city of Vashkivtsi on December 19, 2016 at the city library. In two rooms with a total area of 50 square meters, a wide variety of costumes, in which Bukovyna residents were dressed 50 years ago, are presented.

The museum's exposition includes about 30 costumes of the traditional Vashkivtsi Malanka. Both traditional masks (grandfather, grandmother, gypsy, bear) and modern ones are presented. In particular, the masks of the characters who manage Malanka - "Cossack", "Vulan", "Buk-shandar", as well as masks of the main characters - Malanka and Ukrainian women, are exhibited. In addition, the museum exhibits an exclusive costume-mask with a height of 3 meters - the so-called "Vashkivtsi Bahachka".

In addition, about 200 photographs from the end of the 19th century to the present time, 100 original traditional masks, which are made only in Vashkivtsi, are on display for visitors to view. They were presented by mask masters Vasyl Stolyar, Oleh Voloshchuk and Mykola Marchuk.

All the exhibits of the Malanka museum were provided by the residents of Vashkivtsi, who for many years support the tradition of malanka and are active participants of Pereberiya.

The Malanka museum is most proud of the cymbals and postols that Ivan Mykolaychuk held in his hands and walked in during the filming of the film "White Bird with Black Mark".

National Nature Park "Vyzhnytsky"

Museum / gallery , Reserve

The Vyzhnytsky National Natural Park was created in 1995 to preserve, reproduce and rationally use the natural landscapes of the Bukovyna Carpathians with unique historical and cultural complexes.

The landscape diversity of its territory is impressive: there are steep slopes, picturesque rocks, waterfalls and gorges, and fir-beech forests occupy almost the entire territory of the park (in some places they reach a height of 40 meters and 70-90 centimeters in diameter). This is one of the two places in Ukraine where a rare orchid grows - the leafless chinstrap. There are a large number of springs of mineral water: "Chereshenka", "Vyzhnytsia", "Luzhayky".

The territory of the Vyzhnytsky National Park has routes for active hiking tourism, ecological educational trails. Green tourism is developing.

The park administration operates an ecological and educational center.
